I can’t find the post at the moment, but I recently read a great idea that you should ring in the new year doing something symbolic of what you want to do in the near year. So last night, when 2012 turned into 2013, I was doing exactly what I wanted to do in 2013, I was exactly where I wanted to be, and I spent it with exactly who I wanted to spend it with.
At midnight, I kissed my husband – in 2013 I want our relationship to be as strong as it has been for the past 7 years.
At midnight, I talked (texted) with my family – my family is very important to me, and I always want them to be a part of my new year.
At midnight, we were spending time with good friends – we visited my friend’s boyfriend at the restaurant where he was working, so she was able to kiss him at midnight. It was good to spend time with friends!
At midnight, we were making new friends – my husband and I were meeting friends of our good friends, and we hit it off well! We already have plans to hang out next weekend for a fun wine and painting event. I hope 2013 is full of new friends!
At midnight, we enjoyed free stuff – the restaurant where my friend’s boyfriend works, and where we rang in the new year, gave out free glasses of champagne for midnight. It was only a little bit of free stuff, but I like that it represents all of the free travel I plan to take advantage of in 2013!
At midnight, we were out and about - one of my guidelines for the new year is to travel more, even locally. While I’ve been to this restaurant before, the fact that we weren’t sitting at home for the new year symbolizes going out and travelling.
The only thing I wish I had done at midnight, and completely forgot in the commotion of the moment, was to take some photos. I’m terrible at remembering to take photos when I’m enjoying myself, but it would be nice to have a little more visual record of when we have fun!
So happy new year, and may 2013 be what you want it to be!

It’s really hard to step back from enjoying yourself to take photos. I prefer not to these days. Good start to the year.
Glad to know I’m not the only one who has this issue! I need to remember to take photos when I first get somewhere, before the fun really starts, so at least I’ll have one or two photos!
Oh strewth….I was asleep on the couch!
That’s ok, maybe it means you’ll get enough sleep in 2013! I’m always a little short on my sleep quota.
